Dagga-Peddler Risk All Or Nothing In Dangerous World Of Prohibition

A man with 64 bags of dagga in Toyota Quantum sped through the Ficksburg / Lesotho border post in a bid to evade police who was in hot pursuit towards South Africa on Sunday.

Free State police spokesperson, Phumelelo Dlhamini, says the man, driving a Toyota Quantum, failed to stop for routine checks and searches at the Ficksburg port of entry.

Dlhamini said the incident created resulted in a high speed chase and a shoot-out.

The man drove through the gates of a nearby farm and through the Zone 8 location in Ficksburg.

Dlhamini added, that the man bumped a police car out of the way during the pursuit.

The vehicle was found abandoned near the Caledon River, where the man crossed to get back into Lesotho.

The 64 bags of dagga has a street value of over a million Rand.
